In the words of designer, Mike Tait:
"This 430cc club is the first of the SMT lineup to boast that it has a part of it that is patented. Albeit, pateneted in the country of origin, in this case, China.
The industry seems to want to go with the thought that "bigger is better" but size alone does not warrent acceptance of that comment, without an asterisk.
Just because it is bigger, doesn't necessarily mean that it is "better".
We have a very popular clubhead in the composite crown Babylon, but immediately we heard comments from half the customers that they had strong feelings either way about the sound gernerated from a multi material clubhead... some liked the muted sound, some did not care for it as much.
The Indio is the club that produces very similar palying characteristics as the Babylon, but in an all titanium product.
The patented crown design is clearly different from the moment you see the club. The revolutionary crosshatch crown has been forged with weight reduction and rigidity in mind. At the same time, the underside of the crown has been forged with a different, almost multiple tear drop design which also increases tautness as well as reduces the weight from within. The result, a unique yet pleasant blend of technology and functionality. A crown that is overall lighter than other titanium crowns, but one that will counter the violent effects of ball and club impact than traditional manufacturing techniques.
We were able to take the weight saved on the top of the clubhead and do something equally unique on the sole and backskirt of this head.
We cut in deep angular fins, which simply add more actual product area to a sole of the same size. In other words, we added weight in all the right places , again, without the need for welding weight chips onto the inside of the soleplate or adding of any weight in the form of copper or screw systems.
More weight where you need it... less where you don't and a sound that we all have become comfortable with from SMT Golf.
The Indio name is only derived from an early "moment" in my Professional career where I lived in Indio California, while working at LaQuinta CC as well as Laquinta Hotel GC. Looking back, it was a powerful time in my young life, and I thought the name would do this clubhead justice."
My Indio arrived last Tuesday, which gave me the chance to work with it on the driving range before our club championship this past weekend--a three-day stroke play event.
I am happy to report that I finished in a 3-way tie for first in my flight (29 players, handicaps 9-12), losing first place in a card-off. Round 2 was a 76 (net 66), my lowest round ever on the
course. And that was with 3 putts on the last two holes.
The driver performed well. Very comfortable set up. I had my longest drive ever on two different holes, and that is with the fairways being fairly lush from recent rains. I am still fighting a hook, and so I didn't hit every fairway, but I can see that there is going to be improvement there and I am very happy with the club. The
shaft/head combination feels right, and on the good hits there is a beautiful ball flight. The sound is a little muted, which I liken to
a stealth bomber.
And more than one of my fellow players was interested in the look of
the club; lots of questions and comments.
So thanks for all your help.

ONCE AGAIN YOU HAVE GIVEN ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE SERVICE. THE INDIO WAS AS ADVERTISED AND THE BUMP IN LOFT IS JUST THE THING. THE BALL FLYS HIGH AND TRUE. EVEN WITH MY NEWLY REVAMPED SWING I CAN STILL HIT THIS LITTLE BABY JUST FINE. CAN\'T WAIT TILL I GET MORE COMFORTABLE WITH BOTH.
THANKS, ONCE AGAIN FOR SUCH GREAT SERVICE.
P.S. THIS IS MY 4TH SMT DRIVER. STARTED WITH A NEMI W/ TOO LITTLE LOFT AND THEN MY SON. THE INDIO'S MINE.

Thanks for taking some time to talk with me a bit about the SMT Indio. I
went ahead and got a 12.5 degree with the accuflex evo reg just as you had
suggested and it turned out great! I was hitting it VERY consistently ball
after ball ( around (250-260) and it was almost as if I was hitting a 7 iron.:)
Anyhow, the club felt so solid that I went ahead and ordered a 10.5 Indio
with the same evo reg shaft. I had thought about going with the evo lite but since the original evo hit so well, I decided to just stick with it. I'm
hoping that was the right decision even though I remember you saying that the Indio/evo lite combo was really something! Anyhow, just wanted to say thanks and I'll keep you mind the next time I decide to build another club! Take care!

Hello...I got my club today (that was fast!) and I took it out to the
range...Well, let me just say...that club is AWESOME! I got a hold of a few
of them and they went straight and far (over the 285 fence...I never hit em
that far with my other club). I could tell an immediate difference in
accuracy and feel...thank you so much!
